Brooke joined us from Trinity School for a week of work experience… here’s what she got up to!
Monday
On my first day, I got set up with a laptop and logged into CapCut and Canva before sitting in on CreativeHutch’s weekly team meeting. It was really insightful because I didn’t realise just how many companies the team was working with at once!
I then spoke with Vicky about branding and brand strategy, which I found really interesting as I hadn’t realised how important it is for a business to have a clear purpose and to always maintain a human connection. It’s not something I’ve learnt much about before.
One of the biggest takeaways from my conversation with Vicky was the simple framework:
“To ___, so that ___.”
Having a clear purpose gives your brand a strong foundation. Using this, I decided on my business name, Mirando, along with its purpose and target audience.
Later, I spoke with Debbie about building a brand from a graphic design perspective. She showed me examples of mood boards and branding projects the team had created for clients. I explored different fonts and used Pinterest to gather inspiration for merchandise, colours and graphics before creating several mood boards. After some helpful feedback from the team, I combined my orange and red colour palettes, which became my final choice.
Tuesday
Today was all about developing my brand identity.
I explored more fonts before choosing my favourite and started sketching ideas for my logo. I decided to include two dots above the M to represent two people, as community is the main value behind my business. I also realised this could work as a standalone icon for the brand.
After sketching my ideas, I recreated them in Canva and experimented with how the logo looked across my different brand colours.
I also went back onto Pinterest to find inspiration for business cards before designing some of my own. The team reviewed my designs and gave me some useful tips, like moving elements further away from the edge to improve the overall layout.

Wednesday
Carol and Kasey showed me how CreativeHutch plans and schedules social media content for clients. Using their content calendar template, I planned a month’s worth of social media posts to help build awareness of my business.
I then designed four social media graphics and wrote a caption for one of them. At first I wasn’t completely happy with how they looked, but after chatting with Debbie and taking on her feedback, I made a few improvements and was much happier with the final designs.
Thursday
Before filming my short reel to showcase my week at CreativeHutch, I spent some time researching “week in the life” videos for inspiration.
I wrote a short script before Kasey and I headed outside to record the audio and film the introduction. Afterwards, I downloaded all of the footage, started editing everything together in CapCut and included some of the branding work I’d created throughout the week.
In the afternoon, we went to the Cumbria Catalyst AI and Marketing event to watch Carol and Vicky’s presentation, which I found really interesting. We also captured some behind-the-scenes content for CreativeHutch’s social media.
Friday
Today I pulled everything together into a brand presentation showcasing all the work I’d completed throughout the week before presenting it to the team.
Looking back at everything I’d created, I’m really happy and proud of what I’ve achieved and honestly wish I could start the business myself!
I also finished editing my reel from the previous day and added the finishing touches with some music.
Looking back…
“I thoroughly enjoyed my week at CreativeHutch. I’ve learnt so much about building a brand, I’ve really enjoyed being experimental with the designs and I can’t wait to use these new skills moving forward!”
A huge thank you to the whole Team Hutch for making it such a brilliant week. 😊
