Naomi shares what it’s like to join the CreativeHutch team on a work experience placement

Naomi joined us from Queen Elisabeth Grammar School in Penrith for a week of work experience In July and what a  jam packed week it was, filled with brand research, brand building, presentations, filming, video editing and scheduling content for CreativeHutch.

Hear what Naomi has to say about her week with us…

Monday:

On my first day I met the team and got set up on a laptop with Canva, so I could create my business presentation. After I was all set up I listened in on the weekly team meeting, where I got an idea for the type of things CreativeHutch do for brands and what type of businesses they worked with.

Afterwards I talked with Vicky about the importance of a logo and how it can establish an emotional connection to a brand, which expanded on what I learnt in my business studies GCSE course in school. Using examples like Nike, I learnt how I could use that emotional connection to build trust and loyalty for customers.

Then I talked to Debbie, who ran me through building a brand image and the importance of fonts and colours. I didn’t know that colours could be so important! After talking through name ideas I decided on Pursuit and created mood boards to help me decide on the colour palette.

Taking into account my talk with Debbie, I chose a more bright and vibrant colour palette to reflect the energy of the action sports my app was made for. I then played around with fonts until I found a style that conveyed movement, which made my logo look really effective.

Tuesday:

After looking on Pinterest for business card and poster ideas and gradients that fit my chosen colour palette a created a variety of designs on Canva, followed by making a poster which I really enjoyed doing because it allowed me to learn how I could design my app to fit all elements of action sport: earth air and water.

After playing connections with the team, I chatted with Helen who gave me a T Shirt mockup to make designs.

After a lot of thought and consideration on how I could encompass all aspects of sports, and not just focusing on one element, I created 3 designs on Canva, my favourite being a sunset reflecting on water with mountain graphics in the foreground, with small silhouettes of action shots of athletes doing sports like mountain biking, skiing, surfing and skydiving. However it was hard to focus because of the dogs!

Wednesday:

On Wednesday, I did a month-long social media content plan on how I could raise awareness of my app, where I set five content pillars: Building Pursuit, Culture and Community, Success Stories, Brand Insights and Performance and progress. This helped me understand the marketing mix a lot more as I could visualise all the different aspects of marketing.

In the afternoon, I went into town with Kasey, where we filmed content and a voiceover for a video to showcase my week here at CreativeHutch.

We then came back where I edited my video on CapCut and added captions and music. I enjoyed playing with effects and transitions on CapCut, but I didn’t realise how long it takes!

Thursday:

On Thursday I finished editing my reel, polishing subtitles and the background, and then went outside to help Carol and Kasey film.

I also finished my brand presentation so it was all ready to present on Friday.

Then me, Carol, Vicky, Kasey and Debbie went outside to film the Baki Walk for content, it was so funny!

I then edited it on CapCut and added the sound and text so we could post it on TikTok.

I also filmed and edited a trending Netflix documentary video which was really fun and created some social media graphics for my app.

Friday:

Today I did my brand presentation, along with more filming videos so I can edit them to go on Instagram and Tiktok.

“I really enjoyed my week at CreativeHutch, I had a great time using Canva to create designs and CapCut to edit videos, I loved watching my brand grow and expand and getting to know the team, I can’t wait to use these skills in the future”
